Who are we?
CASAI, (Church Action on Sexual Abuse Issues) is a project in the Liverpool Methodist District. It is an ecumenical ministry primarily offered to women who are survivors of sexual abuse that occurred in a faith context.
We recognise abuse is not gender, cultural, neurological or race specific.
Due to restricted finance, we currently journey with women, and offer when possible, a signposting service for men.
Why are we here? – Our purpose
CASAI is a faith based specialised ministry, working to support those especially, but not exclusively, hurt by the inherited church.
What do we do?
- We work alongside survivors of sexual abuse in an accepting, respectful and non-judgmental way.
- We provide a needs-led support and listening service to survivors of abuse.
- We offer creative and safer spaces to look at how the abuse has damaged and affected their relationship with God and others.
- We share our belief in an amazing God who is alongside survivors of abuse and cries with them for what has happened to them.
- We raise awareness within the Liverpool District and the wider community of the complexity and injustice of sexual abuse issues.
- We provide learning opportunities and encourage use of inclusive, non-threatening language in church.
- We work to increase levels of understanding of abuse issues from the survivor perspective across the Methodist connexion and beyond.
