Bible Month Resourcing Day

14 March at 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Bible Month Resourcing Day

Saturday 14 March 2020 from 10:00am to 3:00pm at Knutsford Methodist Church

In 2020, Bible Month focuses on the book of Ruth – an invitation to churches and circuits to focus on a single book of the bible, over one month and to engage with it in deeper and innovative ways.

We are offering a regional day on Saturday 14th March, to resource preachers, worship leaders and all those involved in discipleship amongst all ages to be ready for Bible month.

The Day begins with a Bible study led by Revd Ashley Cooper who will look at:

What is this book all about? What are the main theological themes? How can we as ordinary folk read the text? And what is the relevance of the text for today?

Followed by a choice of two workshops from:

‘Is Ruth really a Love story?’ led by Dr Kirsi Cobb

‘Telling the Gospel’ led by Bob Hartman

‘Prophetic Response to the story of Ruth’ led by Anne Donaldson

Please book by 6 March 2020 via Rob.

For further information, contact Jasmine Devadason.

The Methodist Church is teaming up with Roots and the LWPT to produce materials to help unpack the book of Ruth.

Who are our speakers and workshop leaders?

Revd Ashley Cooper

Ashley joined the Cliff College staff as Principal in September 2017, following his role as Senior Minister at Swan Bank Methodist Church and the Superintendent of the Burslem Mission Circuit.  He is committed to investing in lay leadership.  He has helped bring the ECG conference to birth, and has established the ‘Navigating Change Conference’ hosted at Swan Bank.

Is Ruth really a Love story? Led by Dr Kirsi Cobb

Is Ruth really a love story?

The book of Ruth has often been described as an exemplar of redemptive love in the Old Testament.  Although such a reading is certainly credible, it can at times neglect the very real danger and horror that the marginalised and the poverty-stricken faced in ancient cultures.  In this session we will look at the book of Ruth through the lens of the vulnerable and ask how addressing such issues can help us to better understand the book and apply its message to our daily lives.

Dr Krisi Cobb is a lecturer in biblical studies and a director of the Bible, Gender and Church Research Centre at Cliff College in Derbyshire, UK.  Her research focuses on biblical hermeneutics as well as Old Testament studies, with a particular interest in women’s studies.  Her recent research projects centre upon the presentation and interpretation of women especially in the Old Testament, exploring ways to read their stories in more empowering ways.

‘Telling the Gospel’ led by Bob Hartman

Bob Hartman is a much-loved internationally acclaimed performance storyteller for children.   Renowned for his dynamic, energetic and interactive performances, Bob has entertained audiences on both sides of the Atlantic.

Bob’s storytelling programme combines traditional folk-tales from around the world, retold in his own inimitable style, with his own inventive stories.  Bob loves to help children create their own stories on the spot, and also runs practical workshops for older children and adults who want to understand the power of storytelling and improve their skills.

Bob Hartman and is author of the Lion Storyteller series, a number of picture story books and a series of books for adults: Telling the Bible and Telling the Gospel in which he offers his thoughts on storytelling and tips on how to tell stories in fresh and intriguing ways.

‘Prophetic Response to the story of Ruth’ led by Anne Donaldson

Anne Donaldson: In 1985 I was given this word that “God had called me to preach His Word in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the end of the Earth”.  I experienced a powerful release of the Holy Spirit and was equipped by the Spirit for the call.  I have been a preacher and conference speaker for over 30 years.  In October 2018 whilst on a short term mission in Peru, God said NOW is the time to fly.  In response to His call I have formed ‘Created to Soar Ministries – with Anne Donaldson’ and I am ready to be obedient to respond.

Booking via Rob.
